Visit to Belgium
In November 2018 six pupils from Years 5 and 6, along with Mr Holditch and Miss Cavender, travelled to Kortrijk in Belgium for the first of the four week long exchange visits. Throughout the week the children tried many new experiences, including a tour around the town of Kortrijk, a visit to the ‘In Flanders Fields’ museum in the historic town of Ypres and a moving trip to some of the World War I cemeteries in the region. We also attended the evening Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate, during which one of our pupils had the honour of laying a wreath.
One of the highlights of the week for the pupils was attending lessons in our host school for a day. While this was a little nerve-wracking for them at first they rose to the challenge and by the end of it had made new friends and had learned to communicate with them despite the language barrier.
